Top Ten Tuesday: My Beauty and the Beast (Dream) Library
1:00 AM
It's Tuesday, time for my favorite weekly book meme! I've skipped the last couple topics either because I was out of town or because the topic du jour had me stumped. This week's prompt, Top Ten Books I've Read That I'd Like in My Personal Library, is problematic, too, since I don't even need a complete sentence to answer the question—ALL the books, people, ALL the books! So, I'm going to twist it up a little bit and go with Top Ten Personal Libraries I'd Love to Call My Own. Gazing at beautiful home libraries is always a good time, so I'm excited to show you some favorites from my Internet trolling.
Before we get to that, though, I just want to urge you to join in on the TTT fun. All you have to do is click over to That Artsy Reader Girl for some brief instructions, make your own list, then hop around the book blogosphere checking out other bloggers' lists. It's a good time and a great way to spread the love around our awesome online book community.
Okay, here we go with Top Ten Personal Libraries I'd Love to Call My Own:
Apparently, my dream library is one of two types—either the traditional Beauty and the Beast version like the first five below or the light, bright libraries with a view a la the last five. If I had my druthers, I'd build myself one of the former, with gleaming wooden shelves (that I'd hire someone else to dust), a roaring fireplace, a comfy chair, and, of course, floor-to-ceiling shelves. Since the latter is more practical (let's be honest), I could definitely "settle" for bright white bookshelves, a big window showcasing a lovely view, and a cushy armchair (my back wouldn't be able to handle a window seat). I guess it's a good thing I don't have libraries like these in my house because I'd never leave them ...
How about you? What would your dream home library look like? I'd truly love to know. Leave me a comment on this post and I will gladly return the favor on yours.
Happy TTT!

All of these libraries look amazing to me. What a fun twist to this week's prompt.
ReplyDeleteMy TTT.
Right? They all make my book-loving heart sigh :)
DeleteThanks for coming by!
Nice choices!!
ReplyDeleteIt was fun to window shop :)
DeleteThanks for stopping by!
I want ALL of these libraries. (With ALL the books in them!) :D
ReplyDeleteRight? I did notice, upon close scrutiny, that the second photo actually has EMPTY shelves on the balcony floor. What's up with THAT? Fill ALL the shelves, dang it!
DeleteThanks, as always, for stopping by and commenting, Lark!
Love the photos. Wouldn't it be fun to have such a lovely library in our homes?
ReplyDeleteSO fun. If only money were no object. *Sigh*
DeleteThanks for coming by, Anne!
I don't read a lot of physical books, but those walls of books are a thing of beauty. I really like the libraries with comfy chairs and windows, that let in a whole lotta light.
ReplyDeleteI agree! I love lots of windows and light, especially if there's a beautiful view outside.
DeleteThanks for stopping by and commenting!
Love the spin you took with this one. Is there anything better than a beautiful library? The problem would be getting me to do anything outside of the library if I had any of those you listed.
ReplyDeleteRight? I wouldn't ever leave!
DeleteThanks for coming by!
These all look so amazing! And the incredible views are such a nice bonus.
ReplyDeleteFor sure. I'd kill for ANY of those views! So beautiful.
DeleteThanks for stopping by and commenting!
I'm 100% here to drool over all those lovely libraries. (I promise, I won't get any on the books!) I'd absolutely love to call one of these my own, too. I'd especially love the white one with the ladder! It can fit aaaall the books without looking too ostentatious and without being a pain in the butt to manage.
ReplyDeleteHa ha. I don't blame you for drooling! You're totally right about the white one with the ladder. It looks cozy, comfortable, and like something that an ordinary booklover could realistically create.
DeleteThanks for coming by!
"that I'd hire someone else to dust" -- haha, well said! Dusting is the cleaning-the-litterbox of book ownership, as far as I'm concerned.
ReplyDeleteI must confess, I have a penchant for the look of white shelves -- despite how much extra cleaning (including dusting! agh!) they require to stay that nice. Those two with book walls, except where there are large windows with beautiful views...that's my dream.
I stuck to the topic this week on mine.
LOL. I agree -- I hate dusting! I also agree that the white ones with beautiful views are seriously dreamy.
DeleteThanks for stopping by!
Such a nice take on the topic! And all of those are so beautiful!
ReplyDelete(www.evelynreads.com)
They are, aren't they? I love looking at home libraries!
DeleteThanks for coming by!
Oh wow these are fancy! I would enjoy having a big fancy library if someone cleaned it for me lol
ReplyDeletewww.tbrandbeyond.com
Seriously! I can't imagine trying to keep the huge ones clean and dust free on my own. The smaller ones might be manageable, but still, a cleaning crew would be nice.
DeleteThanks for coming by!
I love that last one best - those gorgeous views and the bookshelves below the windows. Susan, in my mind, heaven will include a giant library. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI absolutely agree! Isn't it great that we can have a little piece of heaven on earth just by visiting a library?
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Kay!
I'll take either type of library! They evoke such different feelings, but I love both.
ReplyDeleteVery true. I like the warm, traditional feel and the cool, contemporary one. Both are great vibes for a library.
DeleteThanks, as always, for stopping by and commenting, Helen!
It doesn't hurt to have big dreams. Dreaming big is one of those things that grease the wheels of life and keep us going. Nice pics.
ReplyDeleteVery true! I'm actually in the downsizing mode right now, which will eventually mean getting rid of a lot of books, BUT for now I'm still dreaming of a big, beautiful home library :)
DeleteAs always, Sam, thanks for stopping by and commenting!
I fall in the first camp. I can almost smell the wood polish and old books❤
ReplyDeleteSome of the best smells in the whole world!
DeleteThanks for coming by!
I would love any one of these libraries!! They're so gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteRight? I'm not picky. Any one of them would do me just fine!
DeleteThanks for coming by!
Oo! These libraries are #goals <3 I think I'd prefer the window reading nook one, just because it's so bright. For someone who wears glasses and sits in front of a pc 24/7 at work and at home, I find it harder and harder to read with artificial lights.
ReplyDeleteMakes sense! I love to read by natural light, although here in Arizona big windows = sun stroke, which is why my dream library wouldn't be in Arizona :)
DeleteThanks for stopping by!
We have very similar taste in libraries! If a library has stairs or a ladder I just can't resist!
ReplyDeleteSeriously! Also, I'm short, so if I have tall shelves I'm definitely going to need a ladder :)
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Katherine!
I like your take on this! I used a couple of those photos for my periodic 'Would You Rather' poll about which library or reading nook people would prefer. I don't even know what I would do with myself if I ever got my dream library. I'd probably sit in the middle of the room and cry about how beautiful it is.
ReplyDeleteYeah, it didn't take me much Googling to find photos of libraries I'd love to have in my home. And, I agree -- I wouldn't know what to do with myself if I actually owned these beautiful libraries and nooks. I almost swooned a couple years ago when my husband had a big, beautiful bookcase built for me in our family room. It's not quite the same as the beauties I showcased here, but it is lovely :)
DeleteThanks for stopping by!
Omg yesss, I totally want floor-to-ceiling bookcases too(with the moving ladder of course, aahhh, what a dream!)
ReplyDeleteWow, all of these libraries are so gorgeous--I would happily take any of them, tbh :D
A ladder is a must with floor-to-ceiling shelves for sure! I'm short and I need a step stool to reach the top of the bookshelves I've already got :)
DeleteThanks for coming by!
Did I visit your blog already, Keri? If I didn't, can you please give me the URL? I want to make sure I comment back.
DeleteI love that you did this!!! I would be happy with any of these in my house. I especially love the window seats <3
ReplyDeleteI love the look of window seats and have dreamed of having one since I was a little girl! I'm not sure my old, decrepit body could handle one these days, but I still think they're super fun :)
