Top Ten Tuesday: My New and Upcoming Spring TBR List, Part Two
7:37 AM
There have been some fun Top Ten Tuesday topics over the years, but my favorites are always the seasonal TBR lists. It's enjoyable to see what everyone's planning to read. I love seeing which titles my fellow bloggers are excited about, which I need to add to my own list, and which upcoming reads we have in common. Because I love seasonal TBR lists so much, I actually started mine last week. If you missed it, here's Part One of Top Ten Upcoming Releases on My Spring TBR. There are lots of great books coming out in the next few months, so today I'm going to continue the theme with ten more new and upcoming releases that I want to read.
If you want to participate in TTT (and you definitely do), hop on over to That Artsy Reader Girl for all the details.
Top Ten Upcoming Releases on My Spring TBR List (Part Two)
1. The Block by Ben Oliver (available May 4, 2021)—I enjoyed the first book in this YA dystopian series about a boy who's been incarcerated in a futuristic prison that's (almost) impossible to escape. Now that he and his motley crew of buddies have done the impossible, they have to figure out what is going on in the outside world. Hint: It's not pretty.
2. The Most Beautiful Girl in Cuba by Chanel Cleeton (available May 4, 2021)—Not only does this historical have a gorgeous cover, but the story sounds intriguing. It features three women—one of whom is a New York City reporter, another of whom is a Cuban revolutionary jailed for stirring up trouble, and the third of whom is a courier secretly working for Cuba's freedom. This trio comes together as their countries brace for war.
3. Forget Me Not by Alexandra Oliva (released March 2, 2021)—This thriller revolves around a woman who was born to replace a dead child, then left alone to raise herself in a walled-off rural property. When she sees something she shouldn't, she escapes, only to find herself in a modern world she's not prepared to inhabit. Although she tries to lose herself in virtual reality, her traumatic childhood has a fierce hold on her, which forces her to return and confront her past.
4. Girl in the Walls by A.J. Gnuse (available May 11, 2021)—When a new family moves into the home of a girl who has been orphaned, two brothers start catching disconcerting glimpses of a girl who seems to be living inside its walls. Is she real? As they try to cast her out, they bring a whole heap of trouble down on their own doorstep.
5. The Kingdoms by Natasha Pulley (available May 25, 2021)—This time travel novel featuring a boy with amnesia sounds fun!
6. A Sitting in St. James by Rita Williams-Garcia (available May 25, 2021)—I've mentioned this YA novel before. It concerns all the residents of a Louisiana plantation, both those who live in the big house and those who reside in the slave quarters.
7. Hour of the Witch by Chris Bohjalian (available May 4, 2021)—The Salem Witch Trials will never not make an intriguing backdrop for a historical novel. I've enjoyed many titles by Bohjalian, so I'm interested to see what he does with his newest book.
8. Are We There Yet? by Kathleen West (available today, March 16, 2021)—I enjoyed West's first novel, Minor Dramas and Other Catastrophes, about suburban moms behaving badly. Her newest concerns another smug mother whose perfect life is upended when she discovers her daughter is struggling, her teenage son has a secret life, and her own mother is keeping a shocking secret. As she tries to deal with these bombshells under the judgmental eyes of moms just like her, she learns some hard truths.
9. You'll Thank Me For This by Nina Siegal (available March 23, 2021)—The Dutch tradition of blindfolding teens and tweens and dropping them in the middle of the forest to see if they can find their way home is disturbing to Grace, an American married to a Dutch man. When her daughter engages in the practice and disappears, Grace is terrified. On her own in the wilderness, 12-year-old Karin fights for survival against something more sinister than just a silly Dutch tradition while her mother launches a desperate search to find her before it's too late.
10. Firekeeper's Daughter by Angeline Boulley (available March 16, 2021)—This YA novel has been getting tons of pre-publication buzz. It concerns 18-year-old Daunis Fontaine, a young woman who has never quite fit in on her Ojibwe reservation. She's eager to make a new start at college, but she's pulled back to her hometown because of a family emergency. When she meets a dashing hockey player, she's intrigued, especially since he seems to be hiding an intriguing secret. Recruited by the FBI to go undercover in order to root out an illegal drug ring, she becomes enmeshed in a dangerous world that could mean the end of everything that's good about hers.
There you go, ten more new and upcoming releases I'm excited to read this Spring. Have you read any of them? What's on your Spring TBR list? I'd truly love to know. Leave me a comment on this post and I will gladly return the favor on your blog.
Happy TTT!

Forget Me Not sounds good.
ReplyDeleteMy post: https://lydiaschoch.com/top-ten-tuesday-books-on-my-spring-2021-tbr/
Agreed! The plot summary doesn't give tons away, so I'm curious what this book is actually about.
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Lydia!
These sound like neat books! The Kingdoms is particularly interesting to me, though I hadn't heard of it before.
ReplyDeleteMy TTT: https://bookwyrmknits.com/2021/03/16/top-ten-tuesday-spring-2021-tbr/
I've seen THE KINGDOMS around quite a bit, but I'm still not sure EXACTLY what it's about. I know the MC has amnesia and I know he travels through time, but that's about it. Sounds intriguing, I agree.
DeleteThanks for stopping by, Nicole!
I was just looking at The Firekeeper's Daughter this morning! It has amazing reviews. Also, we're giving away a copy of Are We There Yet? on our Instagram today! Make sure to go enter :) And here's the link to our TTT: http://www.literaryquicksand.com/2021/03/top-ten-tuesday-books-on-my-spring-2021-tbr/
ReplyDeleteI decided to go ahead and buy FIREKEEPER'S DAUGHTER. It will be here tomorrow - so excited!
DeleteThat's awesome that you're giving away ARE WE THERE YET? I will for sure go enter. Thanks for the heads-up!
Thanks for coming by, Joli!
I cannot wait to get to Cleeton's book! I have an ARC, but have had to read other things first. I'm ready to savor that one. I hope we both love it!
ReplyDeleteSame. There's always so much to read that it's tough to prioritize!
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Deanna!
The Block sounds interesting. I hope youi get to all of these books :) Here's my post: https://www.nbiblioholic.com/2021/03/ten-books-i-want-to-read-by-end-of-may.html
ReplyDeleteThe first book was good, so I'm interested to see what happens next in the story. The characters' world has been infected by a virus that turns people violent and zombie-like...
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Natalie!
I've really enjoyed most of Bohjalian's books that I've read. I imagine that his handling of the Salem Witch Trials will be outstanding.
ReplyDeleteMy father-in-law is Cuban so books about that country always catch my eye. I still need to read Next Year in Havana by this author though. She always gets such gorgeous covers!
I agree. Bohjalian is a great, seasoned writer. I'm assuming WITCH will be excellent.
DeleteI'm not sure I've ever read a book about or set in Cuba, so I'm excited to give Cleeton a go. And yes, her covers are always stunning, aren't they?
Thanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Jen!
Several of these are on my TBR list, too. Happy TTT! :)
ReplyDeleteI hope we both love them!
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Lark!
What a good list of books (though a couple sound a little too creepy for me). I'll be interested to see what you think of Firekeeper's Daughter in particular.
ReplyDeleteI'm so intrigued by FIREKEEPER'S DAUGHTER! I decided to go ahead and buy it so I don't have to wait for long library wait lists. Hopefully, I'll be able to read it soon and let you know what I think.
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Helen!
Great possibilities here! I loved Last Train to Key West and I’m eager to read her newest release! I was declined the arc so I need to get on the library wait list! Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteBummer! It's always nice to get an ARC of a book you really want to read and so disappointing when you can't :( I'm excited to finally read something by Cleeton. Her books sound excellent.
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting!
Oh man-- adding that Bohjalian novel right now!
ReplyDeleteI can't resist books about the witch trials. They're so disturbing, but also so fascinating!
DeleteThanks for stopping in, Sarah!
The title of "Girl in the Walls" totally gives me the creeps! The cover for "The Kingdoms" is so intriguing, would definitely pick it up for that reason alone! Happy Spring reading!
ReplyDeleteI know, right? It's hard to tell from the summary if the girl is real or a ghost - either way, I'm intrigued!
DeleteThanks for coming by!
Some great sounding additions here. I have The Most Beautiful Girl in Cuba on my TBR, but the others are all new to me. I hope you enjoy them all Susan.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Carla! I'm hoping these are all really good reads.
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting!
I hope to read the Cuba book, because I have really been enjoying the series. May they all be gems for you.
ReplyDeleteBefore reading your comment, I actually hadn't realized that the Cuba books were all part of a series. Thanks for the heads-up on that! I hate reading series out of order.
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Sam!
A Sitting in St. James is on my general TBR too, I hope you enjoy!
ReplyDeleteMe, too! It definitely sounds like an interesting book.
DeleteThanks for stopping in, Nikki!
I really need to get better about looking at new/upcoming releases. The Kingdoms and You'll Thank Me For This both caught my attention. They sound so intriguing, so I'll have to keep an eye open for when both of those release! I hope you enjoy all of these when you're able to get around to them!
ReplyDeleteI hope you enjoy them when you read them! There are so many great-sounding books coming out this Spring - SOME of them have to be amazing, right?
DeleteThanks for stopping by, Holliehocks!
I love the cover of The Kingdoms. Thanks for stopping by :)
ReplyDeleteIt's cool, isn't it? Very eye-catching. I hope the story is just as intriguing.
DeleteThanks for coming by, Ellie!
You are right, we've had a few similar topics. I devided mine into new and old books which I'm all looking forward to reading.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my TTT earlier.
I did all new books, but I have plenty of old ones I still need to read. *Sigh* So many books, so little time...
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Marianne!
Forget Me Not, Are We There Yet and You'll Thank Me For This are all books I hadn't heard of until reading this post, but I've had to add them all to my Goodreads want to read list! Your descriptions make them all sound too good to resist. I hope you enjoy all of these books when you find the time to pick them up.
ReplyDeleteOh, good! I hope we both enjoy these :)
DeleteThanks for stopping in, Alyce!
You’ll Thank Me For This sounds like a great thriller! Hope you enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteI think so, too. Hopefully, it's as good as it sounds!
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Tanya!
I forgot to put it on my list but I also plan to read The Most Beautiful Girl in Cuba this spring. I love Cleeton's books.
ReplyDeleteI've heard such good things about Cleeton. I don't know why I haven't read her yet. That needs to change ASAP!
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Suzanne!
The Chanel Cleeton cover is gorgeous! All of these are new to me but they all look good - especially the Cleeton.
ReplyDeleteI've been hearing great things about Cleeton's Cuba series. I'm excited to read it!
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Katherine!
These all look and sound good! I hope you enjoy them when you get the chance to read them. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you! I'm excited for all of them, but we'll see how many I actually end up reading :)
DeleteThanks for stopping in, Ashley!
I haven't read any of these, but I'm starting to get a deja vu feeling from some of the covers. They are all starting to run together in my head because of the way so many publishers mimic the covers of previously successful books even when they didn't publish them.
ReplyDeleteTrue. There are definitely repetitive trends in book covers, especially for mystery/thrillers and historicals. Few really stand out anymore.
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Sam!
All of these books sound so good! Hope you'll enjoy reading them!
ReplyDeleteI hope so, too :)
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Melody!
Aside from Fire Keeper's Daughter, the rest are new to me. Looking forward to reading your thoughts on these when you eventually read them.
ReplyDeleteHappy reading, Susan!
I was trying to find some more obscure titles since I feel like I'm always talking about the same books over and over and over. Glad I found some you haven't heard of!
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting!
Firekeeper's Daughter really has been getting a lot of buzz, and I'm intrigued. Good luck with your list!
ReplyDeleteSame. I bought the book because I didn't want to wait in line for it at the library. I haven't gotten to it yet, but I'm excited to give it a go.
DeleteThanks for stopping in, Kay!
I love the cover for The Most Beautiful Girl in Cuba!
ReplyDeleteIt's gorgeous, isn't it? Historicals always seem to have the prettiest covers.
DeleteThanks for coming by, Stephanie!
