Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Favorite Quotes From My Top Ten Favorite Novels
1:00 AM
While I love finding beautiful, inspiring, meaningful passages while I'm reading or coming across a clever quote about books/reading, I'm rubbish at actually writing them down or remembering them. That makes today's TTT prompt—Top Ten Favorite Book Quotes—a tad difficult. Thank goodness for Google! With a little help from my favorite search engine, I'm going to highlight ten of my most-loved quotes from my ten favorite novels of all time.
By the by, this fun weekly event is hosted by the lovely Jana over at That Artsy Reader Girl.
Top Ten Favorite Quotes From My Top Ten Favorite Novels
"Until I feared I would lose it, I never loved to read. One does not love breathing."
"I'm not afraid of storms, for I'm learning how to sail my ship."
"Isn't it nice to think that tomorrow is a new day with no mistakes in it yet."
"Life appears to me too short to be spent in nursing animosity or registering wrongs."
"I will honour Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year. I will live in the Past, the Present, and the Future. The Spirits of all Three shall strive within me. I will not shut out the lessons that they teach."
"There are all kinds of courage. It takes a great deal of bravery to stand up to our enemies, but just as much to stand up to our friends."
"She just smiled, said that she loved books more than anything, and started telling him excitedly what each of the ones in her lap was about. And Ove realised that he wanted to hear her talking about the things she loved for the rest of his life."
"Someday you will be old enough to start reading fairy tales again."
"I declare after all there is no enjoyment like reading! How much sooner one tires of anything than a book! When I have a house of my own, I shall be miserable if I have not an excellent library."
"Men tell stories. Women get on with it. For us it was a shadow war. There were no parades for us when it was over, no medals or mentions in history books. We did what we had to during the war, and when it was over, we picked up the pieces and started our lives over."
There you are, ten of my favorite quotes from my ten favorite novels. Which are your favorites? Which quotes did you choose for your list this week? I'd love to know. Leave me a comment on this post and I will gladly return the favor on your blog.
Happy TTT!

ReplyDeleteGreat minds think alike!
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, sdn319!
The Kristin Hannah quote is very sobering isn't it? Thanks for popping by and reading my choices earlier.
ReplyDeleteVery. I think it really speaks to how strong women are. We soldier on and get things done, no matter what's happening in the world and in our lives!
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Joanne!
love this. The Harry Potter quote is one of my favorites.
ReplyDeleteMine too!
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Vero!
Such great quotes! Love love love A Man Called Ove and The Nightingale! Happy Tuesday!
ReplyDeleteA MAN CALLED OVE didn't really sound like my kind of thing, so I didn't read it until last year when it was chosen for my book club. I can't believe I waited so long to read a book I love so much! THE NIGHTINGALE is another favorite. I need to re-read it soon.
DeleteThanks for popping by, Stephanie! I'm loving your blog. Very cute! We seem to have the same blog designer :)
I love your blog too! I want to reread The Nightingale too, but this time around I want to listen to the audiobook. I believe it's narrated by one of my favorites, Julia Whelan. Have a great weekend!
DeleteI love all of these, but my favorites are the P&P and Anne of Green Gables ones!
ReplyDeleteThey're both classics and oh-so-quotable!
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Lindsey!
Love seeing Narnia on this list and of course, Jane Austen, too. So many memorable quotes in classic stories. :) Thanks so much for visiting my website today.
ReplyDeleteThe classics are always good for inspirational quotations!
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Rissi!
I love the quotes you chose! ~Carol @ ReadingLadies

The quote from Ove touched my heart. It shows how much he loved his wife.

Right? It's so sweet.
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Pam!
That one from Mockingbird has always been one of my favorites.
ReplyDeleteA recent one I came across made me laugh: "Speed-reading is not actually reading at all but eye exercises." Lynne Sharon Schwartz, "Ruined by Reading"
Ha ha. That is true since you really don't retain anything from speed reading (at least I don't). I read fast, but I also read for pleasure so I don't want to miss anything!
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Sam!
Wonderful array of quotes, and not just because I've read all these books save for Nightingales. :D
ReplyDeleteTHE NIGHTINGALE is a great one! You should definitely read it.
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Stephen!
Wonderful array of titles! Happy to say I've read most of them save the Hannah title. I enjoyed her Four Winds so much, though, that it's on my list.
ReplyDeleteTHE NIGHTINGALE is my favorite by her, but THE FOUR WINDS is probably my second. It's one that has really stuck with me.
DeleteOOoh nice ones! I always did like that one from Harry Potter! Powerful moment in the movie too! Lol. Great picks!
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my TTT!
For sure. It's a great life lesson :)
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Jessica!
Some fantastic quotes about books and reading! I especially love the one from To Kill A Mockingbird.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it great? I can't remember a time when I didn't love to read, so it really speaks to me.
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Daria!
A lovely list of quotes and books. I took have to search as I can never remember quotes either. I enjoy the book then move on!
ReplyDeleteI don't know that I could pick a favourite quote out of those ones.
Have a great week!
I have been keeping a journal of quotes about books and reading for years, BUT I rarely actually remember to use it! LOL
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Emily!
Great list this week! I love the quotes about how great reading and books are, of course.
ReplyDeleteOf course! We can all relate to those :)
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Leah!
Obviously, the one by Jane Austen about reading is my favourite but I also really like this one: Isn't it nice to think that tomorrow is a new day with no mistakes in it yet.
ReplyDeleteNice quotes.
I love the one about no mistakes because it's so hopeful. It's a great attitude to have!
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Marianne!
Definitely. I wish I'd known that when I was twenty.
DeleteThere are so many good Narnia and HP quotes, great list! It's not letting me log in again to comment but thanks for visiting my post! -Athena @OneReadingNurse
ReplyDeleteLame. I wonder why it's not letting you login? Thanks for commenting in spite of the technical difficulties!
DeleteI feel like I got a bonus with this post---I not only got to see a list of your favorite books, but I also got to see your favorite quotes from them.
ReplyDeleteTrue! I'm glad you enjoyed my spin on the prompt :)
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Deb!
I love that quote from The Nightingale. That was such a powerful story (as most of Hannah's books are).
ReplyDeleteTHE NIGHTINGALE was the first book I read by Hannah. I loved it as well as THE GREAT ALONE and THE FOUR WINDS. I've read a couple of her older books and haven't liked them as much, but still, she's a great writer.
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Tanya!
"And Ove realised that he wanted to hear her talking about the things she loved for the rest of his life." What a lovely way to describe love and devotion. Thanks for sharing and for visiting my blog.
ReplyDeleteIt's a beautiful quote, isn't it? I just love it!
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Anne!
I love that quote from Anne of Green Gables. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my TTT earlier!
Me too. It gives me a lot of hope, especially on the days when I am not my best self! LOL
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Nicole!
I love that Little Women quote. It's ine I've considered a tattoo of in the past.
ReplyDeleteIt really is a brilliant quote. Very inspirational.
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Louise!
Lots of classics (and I have actually read 7 of them - I'm impressed). Love that you shared not only favorite quotes but favorite books as well
ReplyDeleteHa ha. I'm not much for classics, actually. I just happen to like these particular ones because they're entertaining and approachable. A CHRISTMAS CAROL is, in fact, the only book of Dickens' that I've read all the way through! LOL
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Sam!
I love all of these! They are so wonderful❤️
ReplyDeleteI have read some of these and I have watched the movie of one. These are all great quotes. To Kill A Mockingbird is one of my favorite books and there are just so many great quotes in it. There are also so many in Anne and The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe! Love this post.
ReplyDeleteTKAM is my favorite book of all time! I love it so much and, you're right, it's immensely quotable.
DeleteThanks for popping in, Lisa!
I'm not great at keeping track of book quotes but I do love seeing them. The one from Anne is one of my absolute favorites and I especially love the one from The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe.
ReplyDeleteThey're both classic!
DeleteThanks, as always, for coming by and commenting, Katherine!
I really like that Anne of Green Gables quote.
ReplyDelete"Isn't it nice to think that tomorrow is a new day with no mistakes in it yet." Agree. Only it becomes today and full of mistakes very soon:)
