Top Ten Tuesday: Bookish Goals for 2025
2:27 PM
With the onset of a new year, our minds naturally seem to turn to thoughts of clean slates, fresh starts, and new beginnings. We contemplate what we want to accomplish in the next 365 days and what mini steps we need to follow to get us there. Not surprisingly, today's prompt for Top Ten Tuesday (hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl) is along these same lines: Top Ten Bookish Goals for 2025.
Although I love to make ambitious goals and resolutions every year, I've actually made very few bookish ones for 2025. I'm pretty happy with how I'm reading and blogging right now, so I mostly want to keep doing what I'm doing. I couldn't come up with ten goals, but I did think of a few.
Top Ten Five Bookish Goals for 2025
1. Read at least 215 books. I've read 200+ books for the past several years and in 2024, I read 230, so I upped my Goodreads Reading Challenge goal from my usual 200 to 215. Shouldn't be too hard to reach.
2. Review more books on my blog. Since I've only posted a handful of reviews here at BBB over the past couple years, this one won't be difficult to improve! Ha ha. I do review every book I read on Goodreads as soon as I finish it, but I also want to post longer, more in-depth reviews on my blog like I used to.
3. Read more of the physical books I already own. I have hundreds of physical books and my bookshelves are already double and triple-stacked. I need to read more of my own books and slow down on buying more. Easier said than done.
4. Enjoy my reading challenges and finish them if I can. I've taken on a bunch of reading challenges for 2025. Although I never take them too seriously, I do enjoy the feeling of accomplishment I get when I complete them. We'll see how I do this year. So far, so good.
5. Try to read more clean, uplifting books. I tend to be drawn to darker books, but so much heaviness in my reading has started to feel weighty on my mood and soul. I'm not going to give up my murder mysteries, but I would like to focus more this year on the genre's lighter side—cozy mysteries, historical mysteries, classic mysteries, light-hearted mysteries, etc. I'll also be on the lookout for reads that are lighter and less depressing than my usual fare. Any recommendations?
That's about all I can come up with for this list. How about you? What are your bookish goals for the new year? I'd truly love to know. Leave me a comment on this post and I will gladly return the favor on your blog.
Happy TTT!

215 is a huge amount of books! Good luck!
ReplyDeleteWow, that’s a lot of books. I’ll be cheering you on!
ReplyDeleteI really intend to read a lot of books from my TBR shelf this year! Hopefully I can be successful, it's too easy to just add new books but not be reading any!
ReplyDeleteGreat goals! Good luck with them.
ReplyDeleteOMG, I'm impressed that you read 230 books last year! Good luck with surpassing that number this year.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree; I want to read more of the books I already own this year, too!
ReplyDeleteOOh nice set of goals! I too want to read more of my TBR pile books. I did good with this last year, so I want to continue that trend! Lol.
ReplyDeleteHere's my Tuesday Post
Have a GREAT day!
Old Follower :)
Oh over 200 books, that is amazing :D Good luck with all your goals this upcoming year.
ReplyDeleteI like your goals. Good luck with all of your reading challenges! And I wish you luck with reading more of your own books; I always struggle to do that every year. ;D
ReplyDeleteSusan, I like your goals. Wishing you success with them. I'm honestly going to try to read more of the books I already own, but I also know that I do like to get new entries into favorite series. I also like to reread books or entire series. Planning on just embracing that and enjoying myself. LOL
ReplyDeleteYour goal to enjoy your reading challenges is a good one! Reading should be fun, not stressful. :) I have challenges as my one of my goals too, but I'm already getting stressed out about them. Here is my TTT post: https://melaniesmithsbookblog.wordpress.com/2025/01/14/top-ten-tuesday-my-bookish-goals-for-2025/
ReplyDeleteGreat goals, I review on Goodreads too but thinking of reviewing some of what I own and read on my blog too although I did not set it as a goal.
ReplyDeleteI highly recommend Jaime JO Wright for some Historical Mysteries, not as dark as murder mysteries, but they do have creepy vibes. I also recommend C. C. Warren's Holly series (suspense), try Nancy Mehl's Kaely Quinn Profiler series, I could go on and on :)
ReplyDeleteThese are great goals. I need to get on top of my shelves. The problem is that for birthday and Christmas I don't know what to ask for so I ask for books!
ReplyDeleteI have a rule that I do a review as soon as I finish the book and don't start a new one until it's done!
Have a great week!
#5 sounds like a really good goal. I 2nd Cindy's recommendation of Jaime Jo Wright, and also think you might enjoy Mollie Rushmeyer.
ReplyDeleteGood goals, I need to post more reviews on my blog too even if they are short ones.
ReplyDeleteI also find that darker books/books with heavier content sometimes affect my mood. I like to balance heavier reads with some Middle Grade!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with all of your goals this year!
ReplyDeleteYour goals look great! You're 100% right that reading the books we already have instead of buying new ones is easier said than done. :D If you haven't read Tirzah Price's Jane Austen Murder Mysteries, I recommend those for a cozy/historical vibe. I think Sense & Second-degree Murder is my favorite. I hope we both enjoy what we read this year!
ReplyDeleteGreat goals, Susan! that's amazing that you can read so many books in a year. I've always enjoyed more in-depth reviews, though I think I'll be going shorter to accomplish more around my busy schedule this year. Good luck with your goals and your challenges. Thanks for visiting my blog.
ReplyDeleteI just finished a lighter cozy mystery you might like….The Crème Brûlée Bake Off by Rebecca Connolly (ARC) ~Carol @ ReadingLadies
ReplyDeleteCorrection…it’s ***Crime*** Brûlée Bake Off
DeleteIt's great that you're focusing on what makes you happy with your reading and blogging. Upping your Goodreads challenge to 215 books is impressive. I'm sure you'll reach it with no problem. Wishing you an amazing reading year in 2025!
ReplyDeleteI hope you are able to reach your goals this year. It can be hard to break out of reading a certain "mood" of book when you've been doing it for a while. Good luck with that!
ReplyDeleteall your goals are fantastic, good luck with them. wow, 200!
ReplyDeleteExcellent goals! I’ve joined quite a few book challenges this year too. But are more for inspiration rather than goals - despite the fact that I put them on my goal list.
ReplyDeleteReading more uplifting books sounds like a great goal. I always need to refresh with cozy, sweet books after reading books that are dark or disturbing. Good luck with all your reading goals!
ReplyDeleteTotally agree about dark books dampening the spirits. That happens to me too. You've got some great goals here, Susan. I have no doubt you'll accomplish them. Have a fantastic weekend!
ReplyDeleteGreat goals! I love your attitude towards reading challenges and that you're focusing on what makes you happy. Good luck with all of these!
ReplyDeleteThese are great goals! I also need to read more books I own and also not buy as many. Good luck! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on needing to read more than I buy! I suck at book bans (somehow they seem to make me buy more), but I'm making a big effort to read my backlog too, at least.
ReplyDeleteGood luck!
Wonderful goals! I also need to start posting more reviews on my blog. I always post them to Goodreads and Amazon and then forget to add them elsewhere.
ReplyDeleteGood luck on your goals this year!
I'm with you on the balancing the cozy/lighter with the heavier! I love a good thriller, but they can get to be too much - good thing there are some really fun cozies out there :) Same with the fantasy - I love so much of it, but sometimes it gets so life-or-death I need a break.
ReplyDelete215 books is such a lofty goal! You are amazing. I hope you are able to accomplish these!
ReplyDeleteNumber 4 is one that I always struggle with. I start off well with the challenges, then fade off as the year goes on. Good luck with your goals for the year.
ReplyDeleteIf only I could read even 150 books in a year. I think the most I have ever tracked was 120, and that was only once.
ReplyDeleteAnd you read a book for every state every year. That is so amazing.
Great goals! I am reading a darker romance right now and I’m having difficulty picking it up and getting through it. I like to keep things lighthearted and fun. I have enough stress in my life. Anything on my blog is clean and lighthearted. Happy 2025 reading!
ReplyDeleteMy physical TBR is going to be the death of me, if I don't get it under control. Good luck with your goals this year!
ReplyDeleteLove your goals! and 215 is a cool number!! I do want to write more of the in-depth reviews (used to but somehow not so often recently)
ReplyDeleteThat's wonderful that you're happy with how things are going for you in general with your reading and blogging. It's also fantastic that you've managed to read so many books consistently over the last few years.
ReplyDeleteI strongly relate to the physical books goal. I think I've been better about buying them but I have a major backlog of owned books to get through. I'm also not great at picking up lighter books. I've read a few cosy fantasy books but besides the first book in the Aunties series I haven't really read any light mysteries 🤔
Good luck with all of your goals and challenges. I hope you can find the type of reads you're looking for too.
I try to find that balance as well, between the darker books I read and lighter cozier books. I read a lot of cozy fantasy and old fashioned middle grade for the lighter books. :)
ReplyDeleteThese are great goals, Susan! Like you, I am hoping I can review more of the books I read on my blog. I fell out of the habit and have been having a hard time getting back into it. Good luck with your goals this year and, most of all, happy reading!
ReplyDeleteGreat post! I've seen goals for reading more backlist and owned books on almost everyone's list this week, so I think it might just be a bookworm problem haha! In 2024, I reviewed every single books that I read, and it was a little exhausting. This year, I'm not going to push myself to write reviews of every single book, while still posting enough to have enough reviews weekly.
ReplyDeleteLove your reading goals. They feel very practical (well ... 215 books for me is huge :0) I too feel drawn to reading some lighter books this year as well.
ReplyDeleteGodo luck with your reading goals! I'm drawn to darker books also so it's definitely good to mix in some lighter reads also.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your goals! I'm trying to read more books off my shelf as well. There needs to be more progress there!
ReplyDeleteReading more physical books of my TBR is one that will also be on my goals for 2025, which I haven't posted yet because my head just blanked when I started to think about it. So that is yet to come. Happy Reading!
ReplyDeleteIrene @ www.witchyreads.nl
I need to put more reviews on my blog again too. I don't know why I got away from that the past year or two. I always make sure to post to Goodreads.....
ReplyDeleteI also am going to try to post more reviews on the blog, not an easy task especially not if you read 200+ books, which WOW! & It's nice you have a goal to be mindful of your mental health in terms of picking something lighter when you need to.
ReplyDeleteVeros @ Dark Shelf of Wonders
I enjoy a good cozy mystery (which I don't always find "dark" or depressing) but mostly I like to read and enjoy lighter and happier reads. :) I did really enjoy the Drew Farthering books which are mysteries, but they keep mostly "cozy" and cute. :) Thanks for visiting my list this past week.
ReplyDeleteI need to post more reviews too. And I love that you're focusing on more light-hearted reads too. Good luck with all your goals this year!
