2024 Build Your Library Reading Challenge
Policies/FAQs
8:57 AM
Dear Authors/Publishers/Publicists:
Welcome to Bloggin' 'bout Books. This blog was established in August of 2006. Currently, it has around 800 Followers and about the same amount of subscribers via feedreaders. On average, I read between 100 and 200 books a year and post reviews 2-3 times a week.
I am happy to receive ARCs and review copies of books in which I am interested. I generally like women's fiction, historical fiction, YA fiction, mystery/suspense, children's fiction (middle grade and YA), biography/memoir, LDS books, YA sci fi/fantasy, and interesting non-fiction. In general, I'm not interested in poetry, short stories, picture books, or essays. Please also be aware that I will not accept erotica or anti-Mormon books. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormon), I have a higher sensitivity to profanity and graphic sex than most reviewers - I reserve the right to refuse to read any book which offends me. I do try to keep an open mind and expose myself to different kinds of books. However, I won't waste my time on books that offend.
I will give each ARC/book my full attention, and evaluate it as fairly as possible. Once a review is published, you have my permission to use anything I have said in promotional material, as long as quotes are attributed to me.
While I prefer "real" books to e-books, I will accept books in formats that can be read on my Kindle Fire. PDF and MOBI files seem to work best. I am a member of both NetGalley and Edelweiss and can accept e-ARCS through both sites.
I don't give out my address on the Internet. You may email me at blogginboutbooks@gmail.com for mailing information.
Because I accept books from many different authors, publishers and publicists, I've got A LOT of ARCs to go through. I will review all of them, but it may not be in a very timely manner. I consider book reviewing my hobby, not my job. My family's needs come first—always. In short, I read as much as I can as fast as I can, but it may not be fast enough for you. If you'd like a book reviewed within a specific time frame, you will probably need to find a different reviewer.
I rate the books I review according to the American educational grading system of A, B, C, D and F. I am known as a tough, but fair critic. I do my best to provide honest, thoughtful reviews, and back up my grade with valid reasoning. Please remember that these are just my opinions. I encourage you authors to leave comments on reviews of your books. If you have a beef with something I've said, let me know. You can comment on the blog post or email me at blogginboutbooks@gmail.com. If you are not prepared to accept honest feedback/criticism, please do not send me your book.
Because I love reading, I do my best to promote the authors whose books I enjoy. To this end, I love doing interviews, hosting giveaways and having authors guest post. Frankly, I have no idea how podcasting works, so that's not really an option here at BBB. Sorry. In general, I do not post interviews, guest posts or other promotional material for books I've never read or authors with whom I am not familiar. If I enjoy your book, then I will definitely be interested in interviewing you, hosting a giveaway or accepting a guest post written by you. Just let me know if any of those things appeal to you and I'll set something up. Be aware that even if we don't do any promotional "extras," and even if I totally tear your book apart, I always provide a link to the website/blog of the author whose work I am reviewing so that readers can find their way to you and make their own decisions about your work.
Authors have asked me to post my reviews on Amazon.com and other booksellers' websites. I can't promise to do this, but I'll try. How's that?
I have been asked by several authors to review their manuscripts, which I am more than willing to do. However, some kind of fee will be involved. I'm not a professional, but I also can't do this kind of time-consuming work for free. Contact me if you're interested, and we can work something out.
I think that covers everything. I will add more information as issues come up.
Thank you,
Susan

Review Time Frame
Because I accept books from many different authors, publishers and publicists, I've got A LOT of ARCs to go through. I will review all of them, but it may not be in a very timely manner. Interviews, Giveaways, Guest Posts & Podcasts
Because I love reading, I do my best to promote the authors whose books I enjoy. To this end, I love doing interviews, hosting giveaways and having authors guest post. Frankly, I have no idea how podcasting works, so that's not really an option here at BBB. Sorry. Amazon, Barnes & Noble, & Other Reviews
Authors have asked me to post my reviews on Amazon.com and other booksellers' websites. I can't promise to do this, but I'll try. How's that?
Blog Tours
Although I used to participate in many blog tours, reviewing books on a schedule became too stressful. As of 2021, I am no longer doing blog tours.
Advertising
In an effort to keep my blog objective, clean-looking and user-friendly, I do not allow advertising on my blog. I am, however, open to doing reviews of websites, software, stores, and products that are book-related. Feel free to email me with opportunities in which you think I might be interested.
Manuscript Reviews
I have been asked by several authors to review their manuscripts, which I am more than willing to do. However, some kind of fee will be involved. I'm not a professional, but I also can't do this kind of time-consuming work for free. Contact me if you're interested, and we can work something out.
